Dorit  of was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. She began to draw at age three. Her earliest surviving portrait is one that she created of her very ill grandmother, in ballpoint pen, when she was nine.

After Dorit finished high school she studied graphic and fine art at Sir George Williams School of Art (now part of Concordia University). In 1967 she immigrated to Israel and settled in Tel Aviv. There she worked until 1971 as an illustrator of postage stamps at an advertising studio. Then she went free-lance and worked for many Israeli newspapers and magazines as an editorial artist. In the fall of1973 Dorit relocated to the beautiful desert tourist town of Eilat on the Red Sea where she created museum quality pencil portraits of the guests in different hotel lobbies. Dorit immigrated to Dallas, Texas in 1989. She opened her free-lance illustration studio that she called Doritart in 1990. She is currently in this position.
